Question in email :

>>>>>>>
I just wanted to ask whether Bangalore is the only city where the City
round is going to happen for the Indian Sudoku Championship for
selection of WSC 2012 or there are many other cities??
because i am living ver far away from Bangalore..

So is there a possibility that you can have more cities where this
round can be organised as most of people will have problem to attend
such a big event if it happens to held in only Bangalore.
>>>>>>>

It will not be only in Bangalore. Please wait for few more days and details will be published (both in Times of India and at LMI site)

The banners are designed by Times Of India folks. You don't expect anything less from the newspaper which has largest circulation among all English-language newspapers in the world, do you?

Venue details are already published in this thread for these cities. Registration process will be by SMS and I think will start 1 week earlier than the regional round.

These questions have already received an answer, please read carefully the thread...

- Registration process starts about one week before each round, so I guess the SMS code for Mumbai is not known yet.
- Regarding details about the contests themselves, it has been said that no instruction booklet will be published. It looks like you have to register, then go to the place where the tournament is held... and see what happens !

Shilo... Surprisingly there are millions of people in Bangalore who read the newspapers and are gearing up... You will be surprised at the turnout. sometimes, it is better to keep following the news rather than check at the last minute.

Will the format of the other regional rounds be similar to the one in Bangalore? As in, 6x6s to determine the first round eliminations and then 9x9s with variants in the next rounds?

yes it would have been better if there was an online round also. Also the timing in july is also not right for students from bihar as they are busy with their exams. I'm from patna, bihar and like last year i have to miss ISC 2012 as my exams are from 16 july.

The World Championships take place in October-November, so the nationals have to be held before August. Almost all institutes in India follow a June-April or July-May academic calendar, so January-April is a busy month for most students preparing for their final examinations. So, May-June-July is the best time for these championships and it is unfortunate that it clashes with your exams.

Well I'm sure you could find a few exams scheduled in June too. Its always gonna be close to or clashing with something, its really difficult to plan a National level Championship to suit everyone. It was held in June last year, and for whatever reasons, some top players (Jaipal, Rakesh amongst them who have already qualified for the finals this year) couldn't make it, so you just have to hope you get your chance next time if you really can't make it this time.

Register from another number or try from the same number again. If you register towards the end of the week (Thursday/ Friday), may be you get a little later time.

In general, points are given when you fill the grid with all digits in their correct position. If not, you get no points. If you want further details, check out the monthly tests(link is around top of the page) and study the points systems.

If you want further details, check out the monthly tests(link is around top of the page) and study the points systems.

thanx, but I couldn't get it.

Sudoku competitions are like examinations where marks (points) are awarded to the puzzles based on the difficulty level (which is directly proportional to the time required by a any solver). Ofcourse it depends on the level of solver, but the same solver can always differentiate between two puzzles and comment on the difficulty level. Most important point in OFFLINE (Paper) competitions is if even one cell is WRONG or BLANK you get ZERO points for that puzzle and there are no marks for partially solved puzzle.

All the best, just dont worry about points, try and solve each puzzle. Happy Solving.

This has been answered before, but anyway - There are 2 rounds left, Delhi on 14th, Mumbai on 15th. You can register to whichever is convenient for you by sms-ing TOISUDD/TOISUDM to 58888. You will receive a reply specifying your time slot.

The competition is over for this year, however you can participate in the monthly tests being held at this site both for sudokus and puzzles. It will now only give you practice but it will also give you exposure to many variations which are being created by the world class authors on this site.

i think the selection process for 2011 was much better than 2012 becuase this only 4 were selected 4m the 4 cities whereas the other people in top 10 of one city may be better than tops of other city... its my opinion.. last year selection had more rounds n so more chances n was online n offline both

You lose 90 points in the finals and end up becoming Champion. I lose 20 points in the qualifiers and get knocked out of the tournament. Typical :P

I personally preferred the 2011 format over last year's and I think an online round for qualifying is the best idea, and I'm sure the organizers will try for that. That definitely seems a much easier idea than including more cities into the offline rounds. Either way, I'm sure that if anything is decided it'll be after considering the feedback and suggestions, and will be announced here on the forum.

With all due respect to the organizers decision which is going to have the final say, i would argue my case for an Offline format for the ISC not only this year but also in the years to follow.
There are 2 valid points that the organizers should consider before deciding on the format.
1)Is the goal to conduct the ISC event with minimum hassles and ease of organizing which would certainly be the case in an online event
-----------------------------------------------------------------OR------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2)Is the goal of ISC to popularize the sudoku sport across the nation which is much broader in perspective ,scope and reach than the former, thereby encouraging many more little kids to get hooked on to this wonderful logic game.
Considering the response that was obtained last year from the offline event especially with 4000+ participants from across four major cities and the reach that was achieved, i would be hard pressed to switch the format to online this year if i were an organizer. The incredible reach that was obtained last year through the newspapers reaching out to the masses is something worth remembering.
Unlike the online event which i am inclined to think would be advantageous only to a select few of the already persisting strong sudoku community in India ,an offline event opens up the window of opportunity to a million people probably across the length of the country. The festive mood that was present inside the tournament hall from kids ,adolescents ,youths and even octogenarians! alike is hard to miss if one had attended the event. These would never be present in an online event which is limited in scope and which attracts hardly 400 - 500 participants and the reach which is nowhere near as compared to an offline event.
If the goal of Logic masters India is indeed "To find and hone talent from the deep ends of India and nurture the dream to see India finish at the podium" I can state with conviction that an offline event would far better serve the purpose than on online event.Thats all folks!

This makes me feel my earlier post wasn't clear, as no one has suggested cutting off the offline component as far as I can see.
Just to clarify, my earlier point includes the offline component too. 2011 was certainly the ideal format, whether you are in favor of an offline or an online event. But organizing that much is difficult, and that should be considered. Thats what I meant by "its easier to include an online qualifier than including more cities". I don't think anyone is suggesting that there shouldn't be an offline component, I'm all for it, and we are only arguing the merit of holding an online round as well. I'm sure the merit is obvious - a chance for those who can't make it to the offline events so they still have a shot at reaching the finals.
