Posts: 1801 Country : India | prasanna16391 posted @ 2013-02-21 1:13 AM I personally preferred the 2011 format over last year's and I think an online round for qualifying is the best idea, and I'm sure the organizers will try for that. That definitely seems a much easier idea than including more cities into the offline rounds. Either way, I'm sure that if anything is decided it'll be after considering the feedback and suggestions, and will be announced here on the forum. |

Posts: 419 Country : India | kishy72 posted @ 2013-02-21 8:12 PM With all due respect to the organizers decision which is going to have the final say, i would argue my case for an Offline format for the ISC not only this year but also in the years to follow. There are 2 valid points that the organizers should consider before deciding on the format. 1)Is the goal to conduct the ISC event with minimum hassles and ease of organizing which would certainly be the case in an online event -----------------------------------------------------------------OR------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2)Is the goal of ISC to popularize the sudoku sport across the nation which is much broader in perspective ,scope and reach than the former, thereby encouraging many more little kids to get hooked on to this wonderful logic game. Considering the response that was obtained last year from the offline event especially with 4000+ participants from across four major cities and the reach that was achieved, i would be hard pressed to switch the format to online this year if i were an organizer. The incredible reach that was obtained last year through the newspapers reaching out to the masses is something worth remembering. Unlike the online event which i am inclined to think would be advantageous only to a select few of the already persisting strong sudoku community in India ,an offline event opens up the window of opportunity to a million people probably across the length of the country. The festive mood that was present inside the tournament hall from kids ,adolescents ,youths and even octogenarians! alike is hard to miss if one had attended the event. These would never be present in an online event which is limited in scope and which attracts hardly 400 - 500 participants and the reach which is nowhere near as compared to an offline event. If the goal of Logic masters India is indeed "To find and hone talent from the deep ends of India and nurture the dream to see India finish at the podium" I can state with conviction that an offline event would far better serve the purpose than on online event.Thats all folks! This makes me feel my earlier post wasn't clear, as no one has suggested cutting off the offline component as far as I can see. Just to clarify, my earlier point includes the offline component too. 2011 was certainly the ideal format, whether you are in favor of an offline or an online event. But organizing that much is difficult, and that should be considered. Thats what I meant by "its easier to include an online qualifier than including more cities". I don't think anyone is suggesting that there shouldn't be an offline component, I'm all for it, and we are only arguing the merit of holding an online round as well. I'm sure the merit is obvious - a chance for those who can't make it to the offline events so they still have a shot at reaching the finals. |
