Hi Shaheer. The last three editions didnt have any last date for registration. They allowed registrations till the day before the event. If you register early, you will get an earlier slot. As days go, you will get a later slot in the day.

Last year:
Round 1 had 4 (not 8 right, someone confirm ) easy Classic Sudokus, in something like 20 minutes, with the top 100-ish advancing to the next round. The next round had 4 Classics and 4 variants (Trio, Odd Even, Diagonal, Alphabet ) to be done in either 30 or 40 minutes, where the top 3 were chosen for the National Finals.
Timings could be a bit off, but the general idea, and variants that appeared, is accurate. |

Its been expressed before (mainly from Hyderabad and Kolkata ), but I assume Times of India looks at factors like their overall circulation and what not when deciding the cities, so I doubt it would change much if some solvers expressed interest. Its unfortunate, these cities definitely have talent, considering that the current Indian Champion lives in Hyderabad . But I guess the only solution is to travel to a nearby city and enjoy the experience. |

Yes

2014 contingent (Rohan, Prasanna, Rishi and Sumit get a bye for the finals ). At most one experienced solver apart from these 4 will get selected from each city.
3) When is the Mumbai finals expected to be on?
I believe it has been announced in the advertisements. The date is 2nd August.
4) "There are two rounds for selection of the top four candidates of each city.". Should that be "top three" instead?
Yes you are right. I will get this changed.

| Couple of things to say about last year's paper and print quality.
1 - Previous Year the shaded cells in odd-even Sudoku is very dark and digit written by pencil is not visible easily its good if shaded cells are lighter like light blue color etc.
2- When I rubbed the whole grid the white lines(non-bold line) also get erased.
Couple of more questions :
1 - Is same Sudoku's will appear that appear last year.
2- Is there will be instruction provided on the same day i.e on the competition day or just a day before the competition.
"The twelve participants from the four regional rounds will compete with the four members of the Indian contingent from 2014. "
Can someone explain this point please. |

Competition day.
"The twelve participants from the four regional rounds will compete with the four members of the Indian contingent from 2014. "
Can someone explain this point please. Total 16 players in the finals. 4 from last year (Rohan, Prasanna, Rishi, Sumit ). And 3 from each of the four cities.

Not too good a performance as completed all the grids in 50 minutes.
First three were less than 40 minutes - congrats to them great show.
But dont know what is the other's ranking?
Suggest in future all who have completed all the grids in stipulated time be called in front on stage and the three winner are announced from the lot.

Without these error you would have been in second place. You have good speed, but need to work on avoiding the errors.

What is the format and lime limit of championship this year?
In Mumbai and Delhi rounds, there were a few elimination rounds (4 classics / 20 mins ) followed by a final round (6 classics + 2 variants / 60 mins )

I had mistakes in a total of 3 puzzles (one restarted and re-broken repeatedly until time was up (I did this a lot back then :| ) ) in 2012. Slowing yourself down a little bit during practice to make sure you're accurate should help. |

Would practice the next time to make it better....:)
I see this said a lot, I just want to note something. Most of the top solvers practice throughout the year. There are contests which are very accessible using the LMI Monthly Contest - http://logicmastersindia.com/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=60&st... page or the downloads pages http://logicmastersindia.com/lmitests/downloads.asp?testType=10 which all have archived PDFs of contests with all the details you need to test yourself on them. There are links given on this page to other sites too - http://logicmastersindia.com/home/?g=links .
So there is an abundance of content to practice and there are contests like the GP and Mahabharat which run throughout the year. People ask me a lot about how long I practice - the answer is I rarely ever solve a Sudoku outside of competition (I count the dailies as competition )/testing. Even when I was starting out the only Sudoku I have practiced at length is Killer. But I gave time to participating in all the contests I could.
As the current Times Champion (at least until 2nd August ), I feel I should post something like this - if you just missed the top rankings and you just solved ToI's Sudokus or practiced for a month (or so ) in preparation, then you clearly have talent because, even with that level of preparation you are near solvers who are participating in contests throughout the year. Imagine where you could be with that kind of participation (which only takes a 90 minute stretch on a weekend typically ).
This isn't for the one who I quoted in particular, it is a general note for anyone who barely misses out on the regional rounds. Even to The other solvers, you may have the potential and just not know it and in general these contests are free and fun, so its a win-win situation. |

For Delhi and Mumbai it took about a week to post them. You also need to consider that the organizers will have to prioritize getting the National finals ready for the 2nd of August, so I estimate a week or so here too probably. |

Now that all regional rounds are over, any chance if the sudokus from all rounds can be put on LMI if TOI allows ? |

TSC puzzles are never posted on LMI due to some constraints. Otherwise, it would've definitely been made available.
You know how openly LMI works :- ) |

Due to interesting concept this time it will be more fun, considering even top experienced people have to fight for 2 spots.

Hi Harmeet. The rules can be found in toi.in/sudoku. A city round can have at the max one experienced solver as qualifier and the National Finals can have at the max two experienced participants among the four selected. Here experienced category refers to a participant who has represented India in WSC A team or B team. |

I just participate in online contests regularly. Creating Sudokus also can help with speed (but isn't a certainty ). |

The largest base would be this site itself, I think.
Archived beginners' contests - http://logicmastersindia.com/lmitests/downloads.asp?testType=10
Archived Monthly contests (higher difficulty, more variety, closer to the WSC format ) - http://logicmastersindia.com/lmitests/downloads.asp?puzzleTypes=S
As you can see on the above link, there were 7 Sudoku Mahabharat rounds last year and that has been announced again this year, with dates to be released soon, so just keep tabs on the forum and participate in this year's 8 rounds, and also look into those archives and time yourself in an entire contest for practice. Solving an entire contest simulates the actual competition scenario way better than solving single Sudokus at random.
There is also the World Sudoku Grand Prix which unfortunately just got over this year but will start up again next year most likely in January. This is the site - http://gp.worldpuzzle.org/
If you are interested in just leisure time solving there are many great blogs by world class Sudoku authors which can be reached here - http://logicmastersindia.com/home/?g=links
You can also check GM Puzzles - http://www.gmpuzzles.com/blog/ It is largely a puzzle site but there are a good number of Sudokus too.
At the start I mostly just participated in LMI contests and downloaded older contests to time myself. I do puzzles too (and am more of a puzzle fan than Sudoku ) but I don't think that has a huge correlation to my speed other than increasing my adaptability to newer variations.

Country : India | Hi, This is R.chandrashekar from Bangalore i had particpated in TOI sudoku championship2015 which was held on 26th July @St.Patricks convention hall.,I was shocked to see my scores and time,I clearly remember that i had completed all the sudokus C1 to C6 and C7 correctly, but your score card shows that points as 0 for C1 and C2 but iam damn sure that i have completed all sudokus correctly(i doublecheckedit)., something has gone wrong while evaluating.I want my papers to be re-evaluated .And one more thing is that the time record shows as 60minutes in result, where as i had completed all the sudokus in 49min and 15secs i had noted down the timings as i submitted the papers to your representative and i saw him writing the timings also .Iam requesting you to re-evaluate my paper and let me the status of the same.
With best regards,

We set submission time to 60 for all players who aren't eligible for a bonus. If you are eligible the time bonus note will also be considered. Your paper will be rechecked on 10th/11th. |
