Have very mixed feelings about this test. I really enjoyed the Tetromino/Pentomino and Akari sets. The Instructionless ones were good too. Battleships were nice, but I found all of them very similar, using the total-sums logic to make deductions. Would've liked some variety. Tents! Ohh man, I struggled on Tents. Not on the puzzles, as much on the answer keys. I found it too much of an effort to count all those cells, and it definitely is not 'negligible amount of time'. I think using column position of left-most (or 2nd/3rd) tent would've worked just fine. Thanks Rajesh and all the other authors for these wonderful puzzles in PR this year.

Many puzzles seemed to take a lot of time, and the answer keys added to the problem. Final frustration was spending about thirty minutes on the final instructionless minesweeper (my favorite puzzle) but not having enough time to count all the mines and peck the correct keys. Sometimes I really wish there were some other way to do contests other than just speed. The puzzles are really creative and satisfying but they are substantially more fun with the timer OFF.

Well that was a sad end for me. Puzzles were good but I didn't expect to be this hard for last round. Well May be I was too slow. I struggled a lot in Tents and Pento and then for answer keys. Made lot of mistakes and had to resolve 2-3 puzzles. Definitely not my day. It was nice to see, most of Tent puzzles with no numbers. I was expecting a low performance from me as couple of types are not in my like list, but didn't expect this bad. But anyways thanks Rajesh for wonderful set, Will Solve remaining puzzles soon. I liked the Akari Set and the Minesweeper (27 mines) and instruction less. Thanks to all the PR authors and LMI for wonderful PR rounds throughout 8 months.

Posts: 315 Country : The Netherlands | Para posted @ 2016-03-27 12:29 PM I found the Minesweeper Instructionless a bit weird to be included in an Object Placement round as it's really just the same as Linesweeper, which was in the Loops round. The clue just marks the cells the loop does not go through instead of the cells the loop does go through.

Posts: 542 Country : India | rajeshk posted @ 2016-03-30 8:53 PM First of all congrats to Ulrich Voigt, Kota Morinishi, Endo Ken, Michael Ley and Prasanna Seshadri for taking top 5 slots in international ranking. Congrats to Rohan, Rakesh, Swaroop, Jayant and Puneet for taking top 5 Indian slots. I missed Amit in this test and still missing Kishore's feedback regarding this test. Let me summarize about this test. This is my first Puzzle Test on LMI. Earlier I have authored two Sudoku test and few Mock tests on LMI. My initial target was to create this test as easy one and I started with creating Minesweeper puzzles. When I tested these puzzles I found these puzzles very easy and decided to increase the level of difficult with each puzzle type. I then created Akari, Tents and Pentomino puzzle in the increasing order of difficulty. However when I tested these puzzles I found Pentomino puzzle to be very tough and then decided to keep Battleship puzzle very easy to make the test balanced. When I volunteered to author this test around 8 months back then we were given target that Prasanna should be able to complete this test in 55Mins. When I saw Prasanna completing this test in 62 Mins, I thought that I could meet the target to make the test not so hard. However I missed the fact that on last 8 months Prasanna has improved his puzzle solving skill to stand in top 5 in world. Congrats Prasanna for continuous improving. Looking forward to see you in top 3 in world ranking soon. This in fact also tell that this test turned out to be on tougher side. I am looking forward to your feedback to improve further on my puzzle creation skills. So if you have not yet given your feedback, please do post it asap. One feedback which we got was that answer keys were error prone which I fully agree and in fact I have experienced it myself when I entered the keys to check that everything is fine with online interface. However at that point of time it was too late to change it as everything was put in place for the test. I am sorry for these answer keys especially of Tents puzzles and we will definitely improve upon this in future. Looking forward to authoring more LMI tests in future :) |
