And in mathdoku , is it necessary that all 4 mathematical operation has to be done ? No converse rule since there is no line that all product squares are given. Yes, all four operations for each 3x3 box, i.e. the Sudoku will contain either 4 operation clues or none for any given 3x3 box.

Posts: 668 Country : India | swaroop2011 posted @ 2015-01-17 1:11 AM Killer Sudoku: Try to focus on thing that total sum in each row or column or box should be 45. So you can get 4 of the digits directly at r3c3,r7c7,r6c4 and r4c6 using totaling rule in box 1,9,8,2 repectively. Also focus on sums which you know the pairs like 17 - 2 digits (98) , 16 - 2 digits (97) etc even 24 - 3 digits (789) etc. Try writing possibilities of known sums like 5 can be either 3+2 or 4+1 try to elliminate one of them. I guess this should get you started . Frame Sudoku : It follows somewhat similar concept of killer to write down combinations of each sum. Starting with easiest ones. Like 6 -> 1+2+3, 7 -> 4+2+1, 23 - 6+8+9 etc. Then see the interaction of vertical and horizontal clues. E.g. box 1 -> If you see second row first 3 digits should sum to 20 because 1-9 will add to 45 and there is already 13 and 12 in 1st and 3rd row. Now with vertical clue of 7 which can be 4+2+1, r2c3 cannot be 2 or 1 and hence it has to be 4. This leaves 9-7 pair in r2c1c2. Similar thing in box 9 --> r9c7 should be 3 (it cannot be 1 or 2). So try to think in this direction.

Posts: 1801 Country : India | prasanna16391 posted @ 2015-01-17 2:00 AM purvishah - 2015-01-17 1:46 AM Any tips for mathdoku? Well, two things stand out for Mathdoku (considering 9x9) - anything higher than 17 has to be due to multiplication, and prime numbers >10 like 11/13/17 have to be due to addition. There are similar restrictions for subtraction and multiplication too, just narrow it down box by box.

I knew that Rakesh you are good in Math Variations, so had a little thought in mind that if want to lead you then need to do really fast. As i am weak in Math variations. But after test was over i felt that i did well than i thought but little i know that still you are leading :) Well done. Thanks LMI and Prasanna for awesome test :) Looking forward to Next Episode.

Very nice puzzles Prasanna! It's been a long time since I participated in a test. The math-theme suits me always fine, so this was a good moment to join again. Unfortunately I messed up the mathdoku once and the killer twice near the end, otherwise I would have been close to completing a test. Thanks for all the efforts; keep up the good work! :)

Ah!That was an enjoyable sprint test.I feel completely satisfied with my performance.I would have wrapped up the test in ~60mins had it not been for the 3 broken attempts in product sudoku 1! I kept repeating the same mistake of assuming the 12 product in Box 6 to be composed of 3,4 pair.(2,6) never occured to me until the fourth attempt during which I started from a different portion of the puzzle.Eventually, this 'little' puzzle ended up costing me 11mins.But that was just a single negligible blemish in an otherwise wonderful test. My favourites of the lot were Mathdoku and Frame sudoku. The way in which 5 and 1 played their part in Mathdoku was fascinating.Frame sudoku turned a bit difficult and more interesting towards the end. Thanks a lot prasanna for a delighful set of sudokus!I had great fun solving the test...... |
