I put some more thought into concretizing the rules and logistics of it.

We will need 2 chess sets of which only one board will be used.
Place the 64 chess pieces on the 8*8 board such that there is exactly one rook, bishop, knight, king/queen and four pawns in each row, column and region.
There should be exactly 4 white and 4 black pieces in each row/column.

Chess rules.
All pieces of different colours should not attack each other.
(Knights of different colours cannot be placed at a knights step, bishops and queens of different colours cannot lie on the same diagonal, kings of different colours cannot touch, pawns of different colours cannot touch diagonally)

Skyscraper rule
Numbers outside indicate the number of pieces which can be seen from that direction. Taller pieces hide shorter /pieces of same height behind them

I feel we can simplify the rules a little and mainly work with chess pieces can't attack each other and that is strong. If not, I think we will at most need the "4 of each colour" rule to make things work. Skyscraper clues are a bit unrelated to chess and may be surplus I feel. Or else we can have two separate mechanical puzzles in the round, one with skyscrapers rules and other with chess pieces rules. Either way, it needs ironing out, but I think this is a great idea for the Mechanical Single Puzzle round slot.

Another option is use the Skyscrapers one without the chess pieces can't attack and just the Black and White rule in WSC and the Chess pieces rule in WPC.

I am a bit concerned about the amount of overlap between the WSC and WPC. But if we can design something substantially different then this can potentially used in 2 places (a WSC team round and the WPC team escape round)

I think this should only be in WPC.

Also, I agree with Prasanna on chucking the Skyscrapers rule. I tried creating a solution, it is quite hard, and I got a nearly perfect solution (all rules satisfied except two rows having 3-5 pieces as black-white instead of 4-4). It is a really nice team round, especially when solving with the actual pieces. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME :-)

The other rules are strong enough to create a challenging puzzle.

If it is so constrained in terms of rules then we might have to make it instructionless (i.e provide graphical instructions during the round)

Do you think this should be a separate round or it should be included in the Escape Round? (The escape round is planned to be completely instructionless/ surprise)
