Also, regarding the 9x9 Renban: usually in this variation "line" means a continuously drawn line that may intersect itself. I would have thought that the pattern in the lower middle 3x3 box consists of two distinct lines, each of which must contain consecutive digits. Is the author's interpretation different (in which case I'd like to suggest that the terminology be changed from "line" to "continuous marked group" or something like that), or is a segment missing from the diagram to turn this into a single continuous line (self-intersecting, though it could also be redrawn differenty to be non-intersecting)?

@auroux: Your both observations are right. We will update the IB and will load the corrected IB soon.

Yes, one segment of line went missing to make it continues line of size of 5. We will make the required changes in IB and soon will upload the corrected version.

I find 6*6 and 8*8 sudokus taking longer time than 9*9 sudoku with similar difficulty level.

Are there any special techniques or things that we need to keep in mind while solving 6*6 and 8*8 sudokus??

With 8*8 I know what you mean, that happened to me too at the start. Never had that problem with 6*6 though. In the end, I think it might be that you are more accustomed to a 9*9. There aren't any special techniques as such as far as I know. My 8*8 problem's mostly gone away now with more practice.

Is the sample grid on page 3 of the IB meant to be solvable? [The one that says 'This grid is for testing how the printout looks'] I only ask because in the previous IBs for Sudoku Mahabharat the corresponding samples have been solvable. However in this one the 8s in the middle column of boxes don't work. Just wondering!

You are right that in previous IBs the "all-in-one" grids were solvable, but this one is not. I didn't have enough time to make one, though I realize now that it should be easy to make one.

Is the test running Feb 20-22 or 21-23? (wishing it's 20-22 since I'm not sure I'll have any availability on Feb 21-23, but if there's a good reason not to start until Saturday then so be it).

EDIT: looks like it's really Feb 21-23. Bah. Too bad!

There is no reason to start on 21st other than we have always started on Saturdays.
But this time, Rajesh has provided all the materials much earlier, so the contest setup is complete. We will start on Friday itself.

And sorry about having different dates at different places.

Very Nice Puzzles rajesh !!
For me it was bad performance, though i completed in time. I did lot of mistakes and got stuck in the Inequality big one (I guess that's my weak spot and need to improve upon that)
Overall Excellent Puzzles. My favourite was QuadMax and Touchy big ones.

Nice test, Rajesh.

I had almost forgotten how to solve Touchy and was solving it as a classic for some time. Inequality(6x6 and 9x9) and Touchy(9x9) took me close to 34 minutes. Luckily I was able to complete the set in time. The grids I liked the most were Renban 9x9 and Standard 9x9 (2).

How well did the variants represent the theme of the test ? variations represented the theme well
What was your opinion of the distribution of easy/hard puzzles? Just right
What did you think about the puzzle quality of the test? Very nice
Of the puzzles you solved/attempted, how well did the point values reflect the difficulty? Most puzzles were worth the right amount
What was your opinion of the booklet formatting and printing? Just right

Very nice -- these variants aren't my favorites at all, but it was pretty good. The 9x9 Renban was very nice -- it flowed smoothly from start to end. I found the 9x9 inequality quite painful, but I think I'm just really bad at reading the clues in this variant. (How do people keep track of all the zigzags ??)

It was a good test. I had solved all except Inequality 9*9 and Touchy 9*9 in approx 50 minutes . I had a good 40 minutes for these 2, but made mistakes in both and could not recover in time. waiting for solutions for these so that i can know my mistakes.

inequality puzzles should not be included with sudoku competitions. Entirely different approach. I understand the neighbors theme, but they just seemed out of place and required much too much time.
