Hi it is regarding ISKL,

Though schedule is not declared anywhere ,I want to know will there be flexibility in its online round like SM, which had a 3 days window for each online round and 5 out of 6/7 rounds were considered for final rankings. In SM it was okay in case if we skipped any of the round because of tight schedule?

There will be a window of 3-4 days over the weekend, but there won't be a provision to skip a round. I'll release a schedule soon, maybe later today.

Since we announced about the 2nd option (transfer to account) a bit later, that will go on for a few days more (till 24th). We may extend after that too but it is likely to be at a higher price than Rs. 550. As Rajesh said you can just drop me a mail at prasanna16391@gmail.com to find out about the account and go ahead with the registration process.

A Sample Booklet has now been uploaded to show the rough structure of the first three rounds. Check the format section of the ISKL page for this booklet. Also note that the participation fee is going to increase again on the 20th of September. Look at the participation fee section of the ISKL page for more details.

Hi. I assume the following. Prasanna can correct me if I am wrong.

There are three online rounds and a fourth offline round. The fourth offline round can also be taken online with a delay of one week. This is for people who cannot attend the round in person.

Platinum - Three online rounds plus fourth offline round
Gold - Three online rounds plus fourth round as online with a week's delay

An International player wanted to participate, so if anyone else is interested, this is possible. There is a fee of 10 Euros (or 11 dollars) which you can transfer via paypal to my email (prasanna16391@gmail.com). This is a highly beginner friendly competition. The registrations are open (for Indians too) till 10 AM IST on 5th December. If anyone does pay the fee, please drop me an email too with your LMI ID so that I can add it to the allowed participants list.

Prasanna, unless I am mistaken I think you meant to answer "No". The flash interface for online solving is very confusing to me, but I don't see any pen input method where one fills in the grid by drawing on the screen with a pen.

For pen input, my suggestion would be to download the PDF as for paper solving -- then solve by drawing over the PDF in your favorite software for doing this kind of thing (beware the PDF is password-encrypted, your PDF annotator must handle that or you must be able to decrypt it using other PDF software then send it to your pen annotation software), then enter the answer keys into the LMI form for paper solvers.
Denis

I noted in an email earlier that points will be deducted. This should be obvious, since otherwise you can just randomly try out 9-digit series non stop. You get 90% points for one incorrect submission, 70 for two, 40 for three and 0 for four. I have sent a mail out to participants now confirming this.

No, you can only submit for 90 minutes. Its not a necessity to submit all puzzles. The individual puzzle points will decide your score, and it is displayed on the score page - http://logicmastersindia.com/2016/ISKL_Dec4/score.asp

Yes: I like many others have a tablet computer with a pen, and find it much more pleasant to solve puzzles by writing with a pen on top of the puzzle (like one would solve on paper, but paper-less) than by entering numbers with an on-screen keyboard (or plugging in an external keyboard). I am not sure what the original poster meant, but I understood "pen input" to mean this. Though "pencil and pen" could actually mean what you understood. I am not sure what the intent was.

Ah alright. Well I got a few queries on phone too which were similar and meant what I understood so I assumed this one meant that too. Anyway, I think our replies clarify the answer for either meaning. You are right that the feature you say is not there in the online interface. Candidate marking is there.

Only if you submit in-between.

Make mistake => fix mistake => no penalty (point will not be deducted)

Just a quick question ... What is the significance of the orange and the green cells in the ranking column?

It was a good game and being a first time online player I enjoyed it. It would be better if the time remaining can be displayed more prominently. For online solvers we need to scroll up to see the time everytime and an alert before 5 mins would really help (for the ones who gets lost in the game :))

What are the some strategy to solve thermo sudoku?
Please reply

(a) Look for longer thermometers. That will restrict the placement of digits in those cells.
(b) If you get any cell on the thermometer, e.g. 5 in the middle of a thermometer, it immediately restricts the numbers to 1-4 for the bulb side and 6-9 for the other side.
(c) Look at the possibilities for the bulb and the last cells in the thermometers. Sometimes we can get a start if the thermometer is, say, 5 cells long and we can eliminate 1,2,3,4 from the bulb. (Or, if we can eliminate 6,7,8,9 from the last cell).
(d) You can pencilmark possibilities on the thermometer cells (e.g. 136); use <, > signs to indicate relationship between cells; or mark ranges for each cell (e.g. 1-4)
(e) Most important - Do not forget to apply classic rules. Whenever any cell gets filled look at possibilities of filling other cells by classic rules also.

Mainly, it is about getting the right starting point and getting the thermometer cells filled. Hope this helps.

If anything is unclear, please ask again. Or better still, you can share any sudoku where you are stuck and need help.

Both Thermos have some break-ins looking for extremities. If a box is covered entirely by thermos remember that 1 can only appear in the bulb, and 6 (for 6x6) or 9 (for 9x9) can appear only at the ends. For example in the 6x6, the bottom right box, where can you place 1? In the 9x9, the middle left box, where can you place 9? Work the higher and lower limits and move towards the middle of the number series for the given Sudoku. That usually works to get started.

Are you trying to attempt online solving or offline solving ?
For online solving there is separate link, once you click that you have to scroll down.
For offline solving, you need to download the pdf and enter the password shown and then start solving.

Wonderful Set of Puzzles. Nice Round 1. Except that I am traveling and the printer didn't work in the shop (printing black lines across the page with no numbers) and after 15 min of wastage of time to make it work, I ended up solving online. So I might directly solve online in next round. :p
All the best for Round 2 to everyone.

Sorry about not getting to this sooner but Round 2 is now over too. If you are still interested you can drop me an email at prasanna16391@gmail.com and I'll take you through the steps but note that the final score will be a total of the four rounds where you'll get 0 for Rounds 1 and 2 by default.

Also, you can check out and note the schedule of other Sudoku contests coming up, like the Sudoku Mahabharat series for 2018. Details are here - http://logicmastersindia.com/SM/2018sm.asp
