Monday – WSC, WPF GP finals.
Tuesday - More WSC rounds, including play-off. Also, WPC participants' sightseeing tour.
Wednesday, Thursday - WPC.
Friday - WPC play-off, closing ceremony.
Saturday - departures.

Each country can choose two teams “A” and “B”, each team consisting of 4 members.

Gyorgy Istvan - member of WPF Board, president of Hungarian Puzzlers' Association, silver medalist of WPC 1995, probably the only person in the world now into hosting his 4th WPC

Pal Madarassy - World Puzzle Champion of 2007, a heavy advocate of "think outside the box" type puzzles (remember "Evergreens" from 2011?)

Zoltan Horvath - standard WPC team member, finishing 4th twice in Croatia (2004 and 2012), making the playoffs on numerous other occasions. Prolific puzzle designer as well

Zoltan Gyimesi - an international chess grandmaster whose side-track hobby called puzzling is also at an acceptable level (5th place at WPC 2005)

Gyula Slenker - secret wildcard who never enters a WPC but is an excellent source of great puzzles

Zoltan Nemeth - team member in multiple WPCs, one of the key organising staff and puzzle designer in both Eger years, similar role this year

With just a week to go for the world championships, I take this time to wish all participants especially members of Team India all the very Best.This time I wont even be surprised if I see not one but 3 Indians (atleast) making the sudoku semi-finals, especially given the 10 players in Semi-finals format compared to the 8 in semi-finals last year after the preliminary rounds.

I just had a skim through the IB of WSC and it looks like an absolutely delighful set of sudokus.Also something very interesting that i could note is the partial credit system.Now of all the sudoku tests that i have taken so far (both offline and online )I have never been a part of tests where partial credit rule was implemented.This time around though partial credit is going to be given for sudokus differing by 2 cells at the max from the solution grid.I am not sure if 2 swapped numbers and 2 incorrect numbers would be treated as one and the same and credit would be awarded in the latter case too?!though they have stated that partial points would be given to only one of the following categories :one incorrect number, two swapped numbers, or 1-2 missing cells.

Anyways this is going to be make the contest even closer and highly exciting and will aid the speed solvers immensely who need not worry about losing all points because of a single typo.
Good luck to all Indian contestants once again and hope you improve upon your performance particularly in puzzles compared to last year and guys please post interesting titbits and updates during the course of the championship.There would be an eager LMI Community(of which i m one)who will be keen to know the proceedings in China.

Results after three rounds:

Individual: Rishi(13th), Rohan (17th), Prasanna (21st) and Jaipal (47th).
Team: India is 5th behind China, Czech, France and Japan.

Results after eight rounds:

Individual: Rohan(12th), Rishi (21st), Prasanna (27th) and Jaipal (59th).
Team: India is 9th now.

Things looking sombre after Day-1 for Team India.Overall 9th with Rohan 12th,Rishi 21st,Prasanna 27th,Jaipal 59th.I hope Day-2 goes well for India or rather has gone well for India .

Day 1 had its ups and downs. The 3rd round was a hit or miss round if you're taking a gamble on the 100 points, and only Rishi did that one well. Round 6 was again an all or nothing round. With 120 points for each Sudoku I had hoped that connecting them would've been easier than it was. We had one out but it seems that went wrong. The 8th round seems to be better for those more used to the Mahjong tiles and differentiating between the different suits. We did the Mahjong placements but then struggled with using the suits for Sudoku eliminations. We were weary of making guesses too because negative points were there.

Today's gone well for me apparently. OK for Rohan and not good for Rishi. Jaipal did ok too.

We can expect more from Prasanna in Puzzles. Rohan & Rishi little disappointed. Anyhow hard luck in Sudoku. Fight it out in Puzzles.

Rishi was in a really bad state (health-wise) during day 2. I think all the variants rounds really suited me. The one big regret is the 103 in the Math round (round 5), since I had that point tally in half the time. I thought the Great Wall (R10) was a bit of a risky round again. Not as much as R3, but still, there was an element of luck involved because the solve flow was from the right to left, and from the left gets you enough digits to continue trying, but you get stuck. I was about 20-30 seconds away from finishing this round, but mainly because I moved to the right quickly and got into the flow. Rohan was around the same here I think.

Anyway, on to the WPC.

I had a horrible 10th round, a bad 11th round. I'll almost certainly drop quite a bit. The team rounds went ok enough for us. The entire WPC has been amazingly fun, except for the 10th round (Dissection). I have some criticism there but I'll save it for later. Waiting for results of 10-14 now. They're saying it'll get done by midnight.

Oh!That sounds bad but still good luck to get into the semis! and btw who won the sudoku GP?I dont find mention of it anywhere.

I'm 23rd after Round 11. Round 12 is the only individual round left, so 0 chances of semis, because that didn't go great either. Oh well, its pretty much confirmed that I've beaten the 28th bar set by Amit some years back, so there's at least that.

The GP was won by Kota Morinishi. I was volunteering as a proctor, and Kota was the person whose solutions I was in charge of checking. It was quite an experience watching him solve up close. Tiit was 2nd, Jakub was 3rd.
