The IB states that "Additionally, each digit clue also represents a guard. The digit's value indicates the number of shaded cells in the corresponding direction. A digit in the undivided cell must satisfy the count constraint in at least one of the four directions. " The cells need not be immediately adjacent, as the example suggests. A guard's view extends to the edge of the grid and is not blocked by other clues. |
