It is not often I see my name above Ulrich's. Let me relish! :-)

I think if Neeraj had solved the Toroidal, he would've been very close to Jaipal.

Toroidal is always difficult for me.............Got stuck up twice and finally left the puzzle...........however cud do it later, but never thought of submitting it later on as i dont find find any merit in submitting the puzzle after 2-3 days............

The 2012 edition of "tournoi du forum" is ready:

There will be 2 rounds: the first one from 7 to 9 July and the second from 14 to 16 July. The duration of each round is 75 minutes and each round contains 8 sudokus (3 classic and 5 variants).

This year, the theme is "Heads or tails". The first round is a relay and you'll have to chose the rule of the first grid (even sudoku or odd sudoku). According to the choice of each player (and as the difficulty of all grids is not exactly the same according to the choice), there will be 2 separate rankings after this round, and the second round will determine the unique final ranking !

The page of the tournament: http://sudokuvariante.forumactif.com/h16-tournoi-du-forum-2012

The Instructions booklet: http://www.archive-host.com/files/1655887/ce78eb3de0e1e4477a37e7c4b...

Everyone is welcome !

Have fun !

I don't expect lot of discussion about this little tournament here, so I didn't open a new thread.

"Players occupying the two top spots in each classification of the first round will play the 2nd round for places 1 – 4 of the final ranking. Players occupying the third and fourth places in each classification will play the 2nd round for places 5 – 8 of the final ranking, and so on !"

Interesting.
What happens to players down the order in the set having higher participants? If there are 50-even and 75-odd, what about players ranked 51-75 in odd?

My friend asked me this question, so I posted on his behalf. He wanted to know if the grouping will still be in sets of 4 or would it be possible to pit against everyone else (Like 51-75, all play round 2 against each other).

He likes round 2 very much, he doesnt like relay

I think your comment answers my question :-)

In fact... I have no answer, that's why I posted a provocative message . I've not yet decided what I'll do in that case, but probably the set of 4 players will go on. And players who didn't take part in 1st round, only in 2nd, will be ranked at the end of the tournament's ranking, but I'll also make a ranking of the single 2nd round, so if someone wants to play only the 2nd round, it's not a problem.

Ranking of 1st round:

http://sudokuvariante.forumactif.com/h17-tournoi-du-forum-2012-clas...

2 players dominated very clearly in each ranking: Kota was impressive in the "odd" path, which was a bit harder than the "even" path, where Tiit had no problem to win !

I know that relay is something a bit special, not always easy for players. When there is a mistake, it's hard to fix it without loose a big amount of time. I would thank all participants for playing this special round and invite you in round 2 this weekend.

The groups for round 2 are:

http://sudokuvariante.forumactif.com/h18-tournoi-du-forum-2012-les-...

Other players can also play if they want !

Arrow Sudoku and Extra Region Sudoku were brilliant. I've seen your usual extra-region creation-style of having 4 symmetric regions, and this was one of your best.

I enjoyed both the rounds. Missed the easy steps for a long time on Sequences, and but for a little typo on the Killer answer key which I corrected later, I would've still had a time of 59 minutes according to Fred, which is pretty decent. The grids were great fun, especially Extra Regions and Arrows like Rohan said.

Congrats Rohan for a very nice second round, and Prasanna for an excellent overall performance ! It is good to see that India keeps getting stronger. As a test-solver I must agree that I loved Extra Region Sudoku, although my other favorite was the Killer instead of the Arrow. Really a great set of puzzles, thanks Fred.

Thank you. Killer's my favorite variant, so I decided not to pick that one as I'd obviously be biased. But I did love the big 28-42 cages design.
