Posts: 21 Country : United States | IHNN posted @ 2024-02-20 9:33 PM For Patchwork, is the rule that all possible numbers must appear an equal number of times in each row or column, or just all numbers that appear? The example and rules text are a bit ambiguous. Rephrased, would the following be a valid solution grid: 1212 3434 1212 3434 As in every row and column, every number in it appears the same number of times. Edited by IHNN 2024-02-20 9:34 PM |

Posts: 17 Country : Germany | Menderbug posted @ 2024-02-20 9:57 PM I have a couple more questions about Patchwork: Can there be regions of different sizes? In case IHNN's example is valid: the "number of times each value appears in a row/column", is that always the same for all rows and columns, or could different rows/columns have different amounts? E.g. a 121212 row as well as a 123231 row? |

Posts: 1801 Country : India | prasanna16391 posted @ 2024-02-22 5:15 PM I'm changing the rules to: Place a number into each cell so that each region contains the numbers from 1 to N with no repeats, where N is the number of cells in all regions. Numbers of the same value may not touch one another orthogonally. Each row and column contains each number from 1 to N the same number of times. This will be there in the new IB that I'll post in a while, and in the competition areas. I hope this answers all questions. Edit: Feel free to ask if its still unclear. |
