Umm, can't have been intentional that the ABC skyscrapers was the same as the practice puzzle in the instructions booklet, can it?

Maybe it's just me, but Kakuro-1 was way too hard for the 2 points it was worth. The rest of the Kakuros were relatively smooth solves. It would have been nice to have an ABC Skyscrapers puzzle different from the one in the IB. I get that it was not intentional, but this puzzle gives an unfair advantage to the ones who noticed early that the puzzle is the same as in the IB. I really enjoyed solving the Kropkis. Kropki-3 is my favourite for the set.

It gives advantages to those who noticed it early. The puzzles from Puzzle Booklet shouldn't be the same as on IB. It would have been good and fair.

In my opinion, that puzzle should not be considered for the rankings. I am sure it wasn't intended. Conversely, if we are advocating for something fair, how is it fair if A solved the puzzle over 3 attempts and B solved it over one attempt, and both got a bonus? What time should be removed with the puzzle? Or if someone tried that puzzle and because of that didn't manage to finish other puzzles? Overall, even though its a mistake, I don't think just striking it off is a viable solution now. Even I failed to notice (had a strong feeling, but went ahead and solved it without any memory of doing the same steps before). If other top solvers failed to make it an advantage too, it is definitely a better solution to just leave things as they are.

All the 4 given dots are across columns, none of them are across rows. So row-wise, 3 can have neighbours as 1 or 5 horizontally, similarly 2 can have only horizontal neigbhours as 5 and 6. 4 can have only 2 neighbours as well. Using this helps a bit, but even otherwise, the particular puzzle solves row wise (you can put all the digits in row 2, then row 3, then row 1, then rows 4,5/6). Hope that helps, else I can be more specific. |
