Hi all,

As promised in the Instructions Booklet, here are links to some practise puzzles that were published earlier by me in the portal of LM Germany:

- Pentopia, also on Bram de Laat's (inventor of this type) blog there are a lot of these fun puzzles;
- Pentomino in the box: 1, 2, 3, and in my previous LMI Puzzle test Dutch Treat
- Minesweeper Pentomino: Other shaped grid, Only 10 different pentos, standard (very hard), standard
- Pentomino Yajilin: Larger grid with all pento's to be placed,
- Touching Pentominos: first, second,
- Pentapa,
- Filled Loop: medium, hard, medium, hard,
- Sum Pentominos.

As always the case when writing a test, I have made a few puzzles more than necessary. The leftovers will be published in the portal of LM Germany in the coming days, following the schedule:
Sunday: Pentopia
Monday: Pentomino Yajilin
Tuesday: - (Sudoku Variants Series-day)
Wednesday: Pentomino Word Search
Thursday: Mini Pento Loops
Friday: Pentapa

By providing these practise puzzles, I hope everyone can have a decent preparation for the test, to enjoy it even more! :)

In Pentomino in the Box:
It says 3 cells in each region of two different pentominos, but is it necessary that it has to be like 1 cell and 2 cell pair split. Can't it be 1+1+1 and two of them join to same pentomino ??

According to WPC2013 Round 4 IB...
(Note: the two cells that belong to the same pentomino within a region do not have to share an edge).

Completely correct. In the example you can find this already for the T-shape. I have placed the T-shape on purpose in this position.

I like the most puzzle 1, in which the rules are quite different and until I read the real instructions (not that in IB), it took me one night solving it without success ;-)

Hmm, that was the first puzzle of this type that I ever made. I forgot that the rules there are indeed slightly different. Maybe it's best not to look too much to this puzzle to avoid confusion. Apologies for that!

In Touching Pentominoes, should all Pentominoes be necessarily connected? Or can there be Pentominoes which are not linked at all? In the example given, all Pentominoes are connected through the corners.

Not all Pentos are necessarily connected; free floating pentos might occur.

How balanced do you think the puzzle types of this test were? Perfectly balanced
What was your opinion of the distribution of easy/hard puzzles? Too many medium difficult puzzles
What did you think about the puzzle quality of the test? Very nice
How did you feel about the length / time limit for this test? A bit too many puzzles
Of the puzzles you solved/attempted, how well did the point values reflect the difficulty? Most puzzles were worth the right amount
What was your opinion of the booklet formatting and printing? Just right

I love monothematic contests and here I found many great puzzles. The best for me was the harder Pento In The Box even though I do not like this puzzle type. Thanks Richard!

Thanks, that was fun!

Points per time did vary quite a bit, but that's probably just me sucking at Sum Pentominos...
