I'm not sure if it'll be fun for me to solve sudokus during 21h40 at home in a single day.
Perhaps It'll be difficult to find a day during which lot of players can have full-time sudoku.

If I have time to create puzzle (I have almost no more "not published grids" in my bag right now), I could be author of one round.

For those who don't want to play so long, why not organise a team competition in parallel.
For example: we make teams with 7 players. Each player is responsible for 2 rounds. only the results of that player count on these 2 rounds for the team.

Gotroch,
Thanks for this wonderful idea. Amit suggested something similar this for National Puzzle Day
Technically, it is definitely feasible at LMI site. I've no doubts about that.

I'm also convinced that with so many good authors around, we'll get as many sets as we need.

But I'm, like Fred, only concerned about the participation. Can players really dedicate 24 hours continuously for puzzles?
There are many practical issues being at home (not being offline like in Hungary). [ Some places here, it is impossible to have 24 hours internet connection continuously ]

But if we can make minor adjustment to the rules, it would be a great idea

Example 1)
Each set is 50 minutes. Each player solves 12 sets. So they have to play for 10 hours (in a 24-hour period)

Example 2)
Each set is 100 minutes. Each player solves 12 sets. So they have to play for 20 hours (in a 48-hour period)

It will take lot of hard work from all of us (authors and organizers) to make this kind of event.
So we need to ascertain that we'll have enough participation before we go ahead.

But it happens, it will be a 'dream come true' for most players who can't participate in the 24Hrs WPC in Hungary.

Request everyone to vote in this poll so that we can exactly know how many participants (and authors) we can expect.

Please do not make it only Sudoku championship. Make is puzzle championship and let the authors decides whether they want to create Sudoku or Puzzles.

I'm agree with Neeraj Mehrotra's point. Even I also cannt give so much of time. Instead that we can make the championship as "Malaysia's Pioneer Sudoku portal". That is very good way of organizing Sudoku Championship. We can that on www.sudoku.com.my website.
And participate in that competition and just try.

It is not impossible to get so much time. I have once participated in 24Hr Championship in Hungry and for me it was a life time experience. It looked impossible at the beginning but once you complete it, I am sure that one will remember this event life time.

Rajesh: Participating in an offline event 24hrs, like you had in Hungary, is definitely possible. But doing it from home online is a challenge for most, if not all.

Gotroch - 2010-08-17 9:02 PM

As you might now, 24-hours world puzzle championship already exists (It is live event every year held in Hungary)
So we can make similar competition online here at LMI with sudoku puzzles - Of course only if it is technically possible for LMI site.
Also there have to be enough authors and competitors willing to participate in this event. This poll can give us answer.

Great idea Gotroch, but as Fred and Deb pointed out, it is near impossible for a human to sit on a comp for 24 hrs. The better option here would be to have a full 1 week competition comprising of 2 rounds everyday. 7 days 14 rounds...

Authors will not compete on a particular day when their puzzles are being solved and for competitors only top 6 of the 7 days will be considered.

Rishi - Sounds more practical and achievable

but everyone (including authors) has to participate in same number of tests so that final score is comparable.

yes Deb, if a person solves less than 6 rounds then automatically their scores will drop. We can keep it in lines with our monthly test that is a particular days round is open for 24 hrs and a person can solve as per their convinience.

It sounds like a great idea - I did 24 hours walking event; 24 hours puzzle solving event would be probably even tougher. Unfortunately, it has been too busy lately and will be for at least next two years but hopefuly when the time comes and I wil have time to play, this event will be already a "traditional one".
