Right from the start, the Jagran organizers were apparently expecting a lower audience here because they had to hold it on Republic Day when the roads would be closed and travel would be difficult. The reporting time for the first batch was 9 AM, and a surprising amount of people made that time, but the decision was still made to delay the actual start to 9.30 to fill in the first batch and go from there. We had, in all, 2 U-18 batches and 7 18+ batches. I think on average there were 80-90 participants per batch, except for the last one which was around 20. The numbers are, of course, very encouraging. There were 3 rounds in all, with Trio and Odd Even being variants featured. 3 trophies were handed out in each category, with certificates for the top 10 in each category. There were a few dramatic moments, the most notable one being that there was a 4-way tie for 2nd place in the finals. This had to be settled in a tie-breaker so the 2nd and 3rd place trophies could be handed out. Congratulations to Asit Kesharwani (might have the spelling off a little, apologies if so), Reena Verma and Richa Ahuja for winning the top 3 spots in the seniors (with special mention for Rupeshawar Pandey and Ashutosh Singh who were in that tie-breaker with Reena and Richa). I should ideally have the names of the juniors too but it just so happened that I was busy checking more papers while the junior awards were being handed out. One thing that was encouraging to see was that, from the 2nd round onwards, there were no zero scores in the Junior category. The article about all this should be up soon, maybe tomorrow. As always, LMI welcomes any of the participants to share their thoughts if they happen to follow up on the site. |
