Is this championship different from the National Sudoku Championship? And if this is different, then when is it due in 2016 and the process for the same. Thanks.

It is different, and it is done for this year, on 17th of July, in Chennai. However if you keep track of the forum you should be able to see more contests both in puzzles and Sudoku.
