Thanks in advance. It is as per your convenience........ It is always better (easy) to solve on paper..... But you are welcome to solve it on the screen |

Although I do regret not having my wits about me to get through to the very end as I'm sure this was very finishable. I managed to not submit puzzle 4 - but I was wondering about a competition of this type...isn't it almost guaranteed that if a correct solution is posted to a later puzzle (say #10 for example) that correct solutions must have been posted to puzzles #1-9? |

Not necessarily Tom.... I mean, the answer key for a puzzle is not the same as the relay numbers being carried forward... I can get all 6 relay cells correct but say if I type in 1( or any other number ) twice in the answer key then the solution for that puzzle gets wrong but my relay carry forward is correct so I can get the next puzzle correct :) Rishi |

Posts: 152 Country : United Kingdom | detuned posted @ 2010-12-27 12:46 AM Ah my point was the puzzles were wonderfully well designed - you had no chance of getting anywhere near the carried forward digits unless you had pretty much finished the puzzle - they really were as good as answer keys in my opinion. Of course, bear in mind I was very tired whilst taking the test :) |

Posts: 148 Country : France | Ours brun posted @ 2010-12-27 2:02 AM I just tried the test but was disturbed while solving #9 and had to stop. I could submit my answers before the end but of course, having lost some dozens of minutes, the final score is far under my goal. Just a little bit of anger, as I felt in good shape. Disturbance gone and answers submitted, I had just enough time to finish the 9th puzzle... but did a very stupid mistake which I couldn't fix. I will explain why tomorrow (well, today, for indian readers), when the test is over. As expected, these were wonderful puzzles. It has been several weeks since I solved a classic sudoku as I'm really bored with computer-generated puzzles, but TTShieh and Leaf Card ones are always a great pleasure. |

Of course, bear in mind I was very tired whilst taking the test :) Yes, Minfang Lin mentioned that in most puzzles the carry-forward digits are determined at the end. But not in all cases. As much as we want to be lenient, and mark P04 as correct for you, but I think it will be unfair to several who have some initial puzzles submitted wrongly. Once the detailed results are up (in 5 minutes), check Semax, don3232, sinchai4547. It has been long pending thing, but I think the best solution is to add "Auto-Submit" for Sudoku tests. Unlike puzzles tests, each Sudoku has its own Submit button. And it is easy to forget to click on "Submit" in the heat of time. We see that after every test some players forget to submit some sudokus. Once all required cells are filled, the sudoku should be auto submitted |

Country : India | Administrator posted @ 2010-12-27 6:07 AM Congratulations to Jun Yan, Ce Jin, Jakub Ondrousek for topping in X-mas Special Sudoku Test. 146 ( of 166 ) players got non-zero scores. Thanks to everyone for taking time out during Christmas to participate in the test. Thanks to team TTLC for the wonderful set of Classic Sudokus. It was only fitting that there were many players from China (some playing from sudokufans.org) and 2 players from China occupied the top spots. |

I will explain why tomorrow (well, today, for indian readers), when the test is over. So, my mistake was that I wrongly copied out a digit from puzzle 8 to puzzle 9, making it really difficult to solve. So difficult that I had to guess - but solved it anyway (in fact, with this wrong digit, it had several solutions). Checked the solution (obviously my guess had encountered no contradiction), then transfered digits into puzzle 10... and only there I realized something was wrong, as I couldn't transfer them properly. Never mind ! |

That is one of the dangerous problems with relays. You make one mistake, but you might realize it only much later. |
