For Answer Key of Battleships, does the order of the coordinates matter? I don't suppose they do, but just in case an 'alphabetical-order' or something is required? Order does not matter. Alphabetical will be preferred, but with Battleships, we always end of checking the answers manually. |

If there is a power outage or network issue can I login (from different system) with no loss in the data that I have submitted prior to the issue(s) ?
I remember something like this were previously answered in the forum, but not able to find it.

How do I make the submission of completed puzzle?
There is an answer key to each puzzle. It is there in Instruction Booklet. After Solving the Puzzle You form the answer key according to answer key rules given under each puzzle in Instruction Booklet. This key you have to enter on the LMI interface or championship page where you will start this test.
The total time is 150 mts..for printing, solving & uploading?
Yes. Total 150 minutes including printing, solving and entering Answer keys.
No need of any uploading or scanning. |

Country : India | Erm, you can check out the instruction booklet of this one itself, the examples have the answer keys given along with them.
Hope you saw this page http://logicmastersindia.com/IPC2012/ . The instruction booklet is available there, puzzle booklet will be made available later and will have rows and columns marked just like the instruction booklet.
Also, IPC 2010 was also held like this. You can check out the puzzle booklet here http://logicmastersindia.com/lmitests/?test=IPC2010 but there are no solutions or anything I think.
Just to confirm related to an earlier query, this is open to all foreign participants as well, only difference being of course, that you won't be eligible for selection into team India ; ) Edited by prasanna16391 2012-05-30 12:57 PM

The puzzle booklet (pdf file with actual puzzles ) will be password protected. To open this file, you need a password.
You can see this password after you click on "Start IPC 2012" on 3rd June at 2:00PM.
After you get the password, you can open the pdf, print, solve. After solving, you can enter the answer keys in the given fields.
You don't need to keep the window active for the whole duration. After you get the password, you can safely close the window and reopen it only when you need to submit. |

A printer helps, and its always best to solve on paper speed-wise, but then, you can easily do it on paint/some similar tool as well. If you want to optimize your performance, you're probably better off with a printer and should probably decide if you can go to the lab early, but as long as you are logically sound in solving the puzzles, it won't affect you a huge lot. I gave IPC 2010 and numerous LMI tests before April on paint : ) |

If you want to be eligible for Selection to Team India, and be in the official Indian IPC results, you should start it at 2 PM and you have till 4.30. It is open for longer mainly for International participants to enjoy the competition at their convenience. |

Yes.
If the rules are written independently, here is how it will be -
All the digits from 0-9 have been replaced with the letters A to J with each letter representing a unique digit. Place a single digit from the set A, B, C, D, E, and F with A < B < C < D < E < F into each cell so that no digit repeats in any row or column. The value in the upper-left of each bold region indicates the result after some mathematical operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division ) is applied to the numbers in that region. Numbers can repeat in a region provided they do not repeat in any row or column. Zero cannot be the first digit of a multi-digit number.

The inside skyscraper is a bi-directional view. that is, if you are standing in any of the cells, in one direction you can view say X skyscrapers, and in the opposite direction you can view Y number of skyscrapers. the sum of X and Y is the number clue given.

Inside Skyscraper done.... Got the logic... Need to solve the one given in IB....Can you also clear Tapa....
Well what exactly is your difficulty in Tapa? Basically, taking a 3x3 group of cells, there are 8 cells around a cell, as long as its not an edge/corner. A clue says how many of the 8 cells around it have to be colored in. |

And thanks to the authors who have created some wonderful puzzles.
It is great to see Prasanna's strong performance (under par as he would put it.)
After IPC 2011 I had told him that I would participate the following year and he can expect stiffer competition to make it to the team.
Looks like he took it very seriously :P
Also goes to show how much practice of not only solving but also puzzle creation helps in a great way.
Congrats Rohan on retaining the title :)
And most happy to see Rakesh, with him we definitely can form a team that can challenge the top few teams.

I agree that the top 4 this year is close to what I think is India's current strongest team. I say 'is close to' and not 'the best' because it is difficult to replace Rajesh, considering his experience (This is probably the first time in a decade that he isn't in the main team ).
But Prasanna has been in good form with his recent improvement, Rakesh has been one of the most consistent top Indians at LMI and Amit still has the best Indian rank at a WPC, so the team is surely a stronger one compared to the last few years... |

Amit, I did take it quite seriously. :P When the year started, I just wanted to be in the team, but with recent performances it was inevitable my expectations would be more, no matter how much I tried to downplay it. And considering I did make about 9 errors, counting the ones where I erased and got it right the 2nd time, I say its below par. But considering previous years, and considering I always make errors( :P ), I agree its a very satisfying result. Another positive I can take from this is every puzzle I made an error in has a similar trend to it. So its quite clear where to improve ;) |

Country : India | Indian Puzzle Championship 2012 is now over.
Congratulations again to Rohan, Prasanna, Amit and Rakesh.
Rohan played really well, but pressure did him in and he couldn't solve one puzzle although he had 7+ minutes in hand.
Prasanna kept making mistakes in every LMI test and continued to do the same in IPC as well. Hope he gets rid of this good habit soon.
When Amit told me that he wants to participate this year, I was extremely happy for him. But I was not sure if he had enough practice. He certainly proved me wrong.
We have always considered Rakesh as the dark horse and he finally proved his worth in a national championship.
It is bit harsh for Swaroop who was just 10 points - a single puzzle away for 4th position, but I'm sure he can improve a lot in coming years.
A total of 128 Indians participated during the official period. Thank you everyone.

Obviously, the timing was decided keeping Indian players in target. So 150 minutes might have seemed too long for many international players. Many players completed all 30 puzzles (some with few mistakes ). I hope everyone enjoyed the puzzles.

| |
Some comments:
- As Easy As ABC and Square Division were the only pairs that had different authors for the two puzzles.
- Palmer's Slitherlinks, Serkan's Kakuros and Thomas' TomToms were probably the easiest to guess due to the practise puzzles on their respective blogs.
- It is surprising to see Palmer get many votes for Tapa (when Serkan is part of list of authors)
- It looks like Thomas' set of 6 puzzles were the easiest set to guess.
- Serkan's Mastermind votes are the least.
- Star Battle was probably the toughest puzzle to vote for.
Thanks for voting and hope you enjoyed this little game. |

Country : India | Coming to the puzzles, there were some really good quality ones there. I loved the Borders one most, but then I'm biased towards Tapa. I made a marking error in Colored Star Battle due to the double set of markings required, but its still easily one of my favorites in the set. I loved the way the F Pentominos worked. A lot of the puzzles I just rushed through in 30-40 seconds like Masyu and Tapa, so couldn't fully appreciate them in the competition scenario. Liar Slitherlink was another I really liked with the full grid being used to give a nice solving path.
I made an error on every single Number/letter entry puzzle other than Classic Kakuro and Classic Sudoku, but I still liked the Gapped Kakuro best amongst these.
My favorite 5 would be :
Borders, Colored Star Battle, Liar Slitherlink, Gapped Kakuro, Graffiti Snake/Snake(can't make up my mind on that one :P )
Thanks to all the organizers, authors, test solvers. I really enjoyed this one, and its my first break-into the top 4 in an Indian Championship so I've finally managed to convince myself to be happy about it :P |

You can definitely participate as an "unofficial". This depends on how many slots are remaining for unofficials as per limitations of the hosts I think. Your ranking won't be counted in any of the official score cards, and I don't think you can be part of Team India. I was unofficial last year and made my own "United Nations" team just for participating. While we weren't counted in official rankings, we got the lowest possible score and enjoyed every bit of it.
