Kolkata was in our original plans - but didn't work out for multiple reasons!
but hey Kharagpur is very close to Kolkata, if I'm not mistaken.

Hi Organisers,

I am very eager to participate in ISC 2011. The regional rounds for ISC 2011 is not conducted in TN, but for IPC 2011 it is going to held in IIT-Madras. Why regional rounds for ISC2011 is not conducted in Tamil Nadu?

There was mistake in our part. The regional round ISC 2011 is scheduled at IIT Madras. We've updated the schedule.

Note that IPC 2011 is not scheduled at IIT Madras.

HI,

If I am not mistaken the top 4 will be selected to represent India at the World Sudoku Championship. If that is the case, then we should be selecting the top 4 from every round. Suppose the top 3 from one of the regions end up being the top3 nationally, then we who knows the person who stood fourth from the same region could have been the fourth person nationally as well. Of course, this sort of scenario is quite unlikely, but if we do not follow logical processes then who will :)

Cheers,
Munira.

Hi Munira,
The number of players to represent India (or any other country) at WSC is decided by the host country - which is Hungary this year. They've not yet decided whether it is 3 players from a country or 4.
Based on our understanding from them, it is likely to be a 3 member team since this year World Sudoku Championship and World Puzzle Championship will be held together (not on the same dates, but within the same week and same venue)

Hi Radek,
We'll have it open for 24 hours after the Practice Test ends.
Note that, as mentioned in the ISC page, this is just for practice and the puzzles / sudokus will be relatively easy (compared to LMI monthly tests)

IF you qualify from offline THEN you can still participate in online BUT you won't be considered for qualification from online EVEN IF you finish in Top 10. Hopefully you may have understood it now.

Also, the registration page for Saarang is asking for college ID and other college-related details. I'm not a college student. How do I still participate in ISC 2011?

As everyone would have noticed, there are 15 types of Sudokus appeared in the practice test.
In each of the regional prelims rounds, 10 of the 15 types will appear.
In each of the regional final round, 10 of the 15 types will appear.
The types in these 2 round will differ. But there won't be any new types than what appeared in the practice test.

LMI will not release any booklet for these regional rounds.

About Bangalore round -

We were supposed to do Bangalore round at RV College during their college festival. Unfortunately, their festival got cancelled this year.
We are still working out to find an alternate solution, and still hoping that the Bangalore event will be as successful as some others have been.
At this point, end of Feb in Bangalore is ruled out. It will be most likely in beginning of March.

We'll ensure that the date is published at least 2 weeks before the event.

In the BMSCE collegefest website, it says sudoku championship participants will have to go thru two rounds- One round will concern Sudoku puzzles. The other round will concern puzzles. But they are supposed to be two different competitions. Pls confirm whether one competition is independent of the other??.

The 2 events (Puzzle and Sudoku) are independent.
There are some typos in the BMSCE website. We'll ask them to rectify.

Like at all other colleges, there will be 2 rounds of Sudoku

So as far as my understanding goes there will be 2 rounds for Sudoku.. the prelims on saturday and the finals on sunday as updated on our website.
Also what are the correct timings for Sudoku competition???
Will there be any IB for this competition??? or the practice puzzles on the website is the IB??

Can you ask your question in english please?

I had to read the question couple of times before I could understand what is expected.
I don't understand why people can't write in English when they are posting on a public forum.

Registered means that player has registered on 'THIS WEBSITE'. Maybe you registered after the list was announced.
Either way, it is not necessary to register. If your name appears in the qualifiers' list, you are eligible to participate in the finals.

We ourselves want to publish it as early as possible, since there might be questions on new variations. Just that we can't commit a date right now since a lot of work has to be completed.

I have not participated in ISC-2011 preliminary round, but according to the E-mail received it says I can participate in both the events finals, so the E-mail I have received is enough for both the events finals or Do I need to receive another E-mail for sudoku finals?.

Thanks

There are no hotels in the CV Raman Nagar area. But there are couple of Service Appartments. Find the details below:

1) 16 Squares - 9980131773
http://www.16squares.com/locc.asp
Located behind Big Bazaar, Old Madras Road
Cost is about 2000 + tax (for this rate, give my reference - Name and the event) The room would be two seater. If you go for single occupancy, the cost would be 2000 + tax.
This one is quite close to the venue. Might be about 15 minutes walking distance from the venue.

2) Sweet Crystal Homes - 9448677065, 9080942040
http://www.sweetcrystalhomes.com/
Apartment Samitha Ritz
Located near Big Bazaar, Old Madras Road
Cost about 1500 + Tax per room. Room is two seater.
This one is just 5 minutes walking distance from the venue.

I have already negotiated the deal. So you can go ahead and book. You can contact me at 9886216066.

I re-read your statement, and I think you don't understand the instruction.
Number 4 outside C1 means in C1 there will be at least one set of 4 consecutive cells all having odd digits. There can't be a set of 5 consecutive cells all having odd digits.

Check Row 8, the hints outside is 3. So There will be at least one set of 3 consecutive cells all having odd digits. There can't be a set of 4 (or 5) consecutive cells all having odd digits.

In the number search+classic,

(1) Can any of the number strings appear more than once on THE number search grid? Or, should they appear exactly once each?
(2) For THE classic grid, can some (but not all) of the number strings still show up?

In the multiplication sudoku,

Can a number repeat in the 2x2 box e.g. 4x6=24. I guess the rules allow that, but still asking....to be doubly sure

1) In Number Search grid, same number sequence may appear multiple times.
2) Some of the number sequences may be found in the Classic grid. But not ALL of them can be found in the Classic grid.

3) In multiplication Sudoku digits are allowed to repeat (4X6=24 or 2X6=12) as long as they don't violate classic sudoku rules.

Need more playoff practice if we are to attend bangkok and singapore tournaments.

What the germans do is that the team is decided on the top 4 of the league rounds but the national champion is decided by the playoffs and finals.

Any specific reason for this format?

The purpose of IPC is to select team for WSC, not to provide practice for Bangkok and Singapore tournaments :-)

Here is one of many reasons - We can have at most 4 hours solving time (considering that lot of players are flying in and flying out same day). If we add playoffs and finals, it will take anywhere between 90~120 minutes. It is not fair that the so much time is reserved only for top x players.

i want to clarify the system of partial points.
is it like if even one or two but not all sudokus of the four/two [linked/classic twins] is correct then we will get some points.

Since people will be starting on their journeys in 2 days time.. I want to take opportunity to wish all of you the very best at the ISC/IPC. May the best player win. It's a pity I wont be able to make it.

Thanks Rishi, its really unfortunate you cannot make it. With the 'Dhoni of Sudoku' absent, the 'R'-team is weakened and someone might be able to break the trend :)

Sudoku instructions (rules) will be printed along in pages. Examples or their solutions will not be printed.

Here is how a sample page looks when zoomed at 53%.

It is sad that you will not be able to make it for finals. You are among some of the best Sudoku players in the world. Try to change your plans and make it for the finals.
