15th August is our Independence Day. Why not celebrate this day as National Puzzle Day every year?

Why mix the two? Why not select an exclusive day for National Puzzle Day?

I will tend to agree with Rohan. We can have a Puzzle Day on say the first Sunday of December since the LMI site was launched in December 2008.

How about each of us creating a puzzle set of our own, something similar to the Hungarian 24 HPC format?
We can keep a mix of Sudokus and puzzles, with puzzle creators being free to select any mix of their own.

I am not mixing. If we have 15th August or 26th January as our National Puzzle Day, it will make sure that there is National holiday on that day and many people from India can participate. Making it any Sunday in December will keep shifting the day every year.

Father's Day, Mother's Day, Friendship's Day keeps changing every year, so I dont think 'shifting of dates' is a major concern.
I agree with you that 15th Aug/26th Jan is a holiday and people can participate, but so is any other Sunday :-)

15th Aug or 26th Jan is a National Holiday but in India alone :) These dates can fall on a weekday also which does not guarantee participation from foreign players which to be honest is at around 60% right now. So in effect we will be having lesser participation on a "National Puzzle Day" than we actually have on a weekly/monthly puzzle test...

The first Sunday of December will become synonymous with LMI and being a Sunday will ensure active participation as always... Who knows maybe once we have started it, it may become a global Puzzle Day :)

But I fully support the idea of having a National Puzzle day!!!!

Apart from what Rishi has said, I think that the Independence Day or Republic Day have their own importance.
Compared to that the National Puzzle Day will never and should never be as important.

So I think celebrating the LMI birthday as a puzzle day would be more prudent. Rajesh, I guess you will agree?

In my opinion, 1st Sunday of December will be more appropriate.

I would suggest the National Puzzle Day to be in January. Because during the month of December people who study in School/College have their exams. Have faced this problem personally a lot during last 3-4 years preliminary rounds of National Sudoku Championship.

If it helps make the decision at all, in the U.S. we celebrate National Puzzle Day on 29th Jan.

I would vote for 1st week of December.

I'd also agree with 1st sunday of december every year to be made as the National Puzzle Day (inspite of some concerns raised by Aditya earlier). That seems to be the majority opinion, at least, among those who have responded here. But, more importantly, we need to finalize the event(s) for the "National Puzzle Day". Amit had a suggestion earlier. Rajesh would surely have something in mind, when he suggested this.

@amit: I'm not entirely sure, but for some reason this year it really got overshadowed because some idiot on the Internet declared January 29 to be Lady Gaga Day and no one paid attention to anything regarding National Puzzle Day.

Why not keep it on a fixed date between 25th December and 1st Jan, sure to be holidays then. Or maybe on some "19" date since many of the puzzles use the numbers 1-9.

Oh and Lady Gaga Day is just so... Ridiculous I guess :P Who celebrates that anyway ?

Not sure whose idea the Lady Gaga thing was, but I'm displeased.
