In the test pdf, is it preferable to have sudokus/puzzles ordered by level of difficulty (points), does it make a considerable difference or is it good to have but not necesary option for solvers, please let us know your views

Good question Utkarash. I know you had posted about this earlier too.

Lets see what others think.

Oh, by the way, I've my own set of problems regarding why my sets are never sequenced with respect to difficulty / points.

Fair, if this adds up to trouble to authors, then we as solvers can do it maunally at our end, only if each page would have just one sudoku/puzzle, , which is in most cases but not every ( correct me if i am wrong )

My statement was bit hazy in the sense I didn't explain my problem.

When I send the IB and PB to test-solvers, I always don't know the points distribution, although I've a fair idea of the difficulties. After the test-solvers finish testing, I start points distribution, but at this point I don't want to make wholesale changes to the pdf. I just feel that the pdf has been tested properly, and more changes means more source of errors. I just add points for each puzzle, and lock the pdf.

I don't think that is the case with all authors. So if many players think that "sequencing the puzzles in order of difficulty" is suitable to solving, we can put a request to all authors to follow that. But I'm not sure if we can make it a rule.

[ Moving this to polls section, since this thread will get lost once the test starts ]

For the January sudoku test I have written, I used categories to define the sequence of the puzzles, and also sizes. I don't think it would have been easy to put the puzzles in an increasing-points-order, other than putting just one puzzle per page. But it crossed my mind to do so. Maybe for future tests I will keep it in mind.

In my case the points distribution I had in mind before it was tested was different than the average of all testers showed. But I am not such a quick solver anyway.

Regards, Richard
