The German Sudoku Championship 2011 will take place online, this Saturday:

http://www.logic-masters.de/Meisterschaften/dsm2011.php

The instruction file with examples to all Sudoku variations used in the tournament can be found there. Since they are available in German only, I will give a short translation here:

Standard: Classic Sudoku 9x9.

Mini-Diagonal-Sudoku: Numbers outside the grid indicate the sum of the respective small diagonal (three cells, inside a 3x3 block).

Abstandssudoku: The small numbers indicate the differences between two adjacent digits.

Einzelhaft Sudoku: For all nine positions with respect to the 3x3 blocks, the nine digits on the same position must be all different. (For example, the nine digits in the top left position of their respective block must be different.)

Erste-Differenz-Sudoku: Numbers outside indicate the difference of the first two digits in the respective row or column.

PĆ¼nktchen-Sudoku: Adjacent digits with a dot between them must be consecutive. All dots are given, therefore adjacent digits without a dot may not be consecutive.

Maxi-Sudoku: Numbers outside the grid indicate the difference between the largest and the smallest of the first three digits in the respective row or column.

Sudoku Position: Numbers outside the grid indicate which of the first three digits in the respective row or column is the largest.

Kompass Sudoku: Each circle contains the four adjacent digits. Also, arrows indicate which of the adjacent digits is larger.

Killer Sudoku: Numbers indicate the sum of the digits inside the cages. Also, numbers may not repeat in these cages.

Ketten Sudoku: Each chain must contain nine different digits, in any order.

Pfeile Sudoku: For each arrow, the digit in the arrowhead must be equal to the sum of all other digits along the arrow.

Little Killer: Numbers outside the grid indicate the sum of the digits along the diagonals.

Hochhaus non-consecutive: Adjacent digits may not be consecutive. Numbers outside the grid are skyscrapers clues: interpreting digits as skyscrapers of the respective sizes, numbers outside the grid indicate how many skyscrapers can be seen from the respective direction.

The contest page with the encrypted puzzle file will be available soon. Note that the Sudoku variations may appear in a different order, and there may be several puzzles of the same type (there are surely several Classic Sudokus). The answer key is the same for all puzzles: Enter the content of the two rows marked by arrows from left to right.

Some final notes: The contest will run on Saturday from 06:00 until 24:00 (Central European Summer Time, which is GMT+2). Each competitor has two hours to solve the puzzles; since no answers are accepted after midnight, I would recommend to start before 22:00. There will be no score corrections for wrong answer keys in an otherwise correct solution (only exception: answer keys entered for a different puzzle), so be careful. There will be no penalty for incorrect solution, though.

Nice logical grids, specially the high pointers.

Excellent warmup for next weekend, but this test indicates I need a lot more practice to have a chance (hopefully I will not have another 0.208 point nightmare...)

The online qualification round for the German Sudoku Championship will take place this Saturday:

http://www.logic-masters.de/DSM/qualifikation.php

The instruction file contains examples for all types of Sudoku variations that may appear (some variations mentioned there will only appear in the offline final tournament later this year). Some of these variations have already been mentioned above in this thread, the new ones are:

Irregular Sudoku: Just like classic Sudoku, just with irregular areas.

Scattered Outside Sum Sudoku: Numbers outside the grid indicate the sum of the first two digits in the respective row or column. "Scattered" means there is one non-contiguous area, indicated by grey cells.

Scattered Gump Sudoku: Symbols outside the grid indicate properties of the first two digits in the respective row or column.
G (as in gerade = even): the first two digits must be even.
U (as in ungerade = odd): the first two digits must be odd.
- : the first two digits must be small (1-4).
+ : the first two digits must be large (5-8).
Again, there is one scattered (non-contiguous) area.

Killer Twins: Two Killer Sudokus (see above) having identical solutions.

Renban Sudoku: Each renban group (indicated by contiguous grey cells) must contain consecutive digits, in any order (but digits may not be repeated in such a group).

Irregular Twin Sudoku: Two irregular Sudokus (see above) having identical solutions.

Irregular Distanz Sudoku: Irregular Sudoku with the additional feature that consecutive digits may not be horizontally or vertically adjacent.

Scattered Sudoku: Irregular Sudoku with a scattered (non-contiguous) area.

Toroidal Sudoku: Irregular Sudoku, some areas wrap around the grid from top to bottom (and maybe from left to right, I'm not sure about that).

Irregular Diagonal Sudoku: Irregular Sudoku, both marked diagonals must contain digits 1-9 as well.

One of the puzzle authors is Richard Stolk, who made "Shapes and Sizes" two weeks ago.

The contest will run on Saturday from 08:00 until 24:00 (Central European Time, which is GMT+1). Each competitor has two hours to solve the puzzles; since no answers are accepted after midnight, I would recommend to start before 22:00.
