Hyderabad Regional Round for Sudoku and puzzles was held at IIIT Hyderabad. Firtsly I would congratulate the organizers at IIIT (especially Mr Vishal Garg) and the LMI team for smooth conduct of the tests. Sudoku championship was held on 19 Feb and Puzzle championship was held on 20th Feb. The format for both the events was similar and two rounds were held on each day. The difficulty level for both the rounds was similar and the puzzles were really excellent............Almost 45 people participated in both the events and lot of enthusiasm was thr in the IIIT students.

On Day 1 (Sudoku) I completed the first set in 41 mins and the second set in 55 mins...... But Jaipal was consistent in both the sets and submitted the first round in 38 mins and the second in 39 mins and stood first overall. Murali K was the third person who could complete both the rounds (both in approx 55 plus mins). Biggest upset here in Hyderabad was Raman (10th position holder of ISC 2010). He finished the first round in record 31 mins much ahead of even Jaipal. But faltered in the second round and made some mistake (or left some blank cells) in the killer. So the final result was Jaipal (First), myself (Second) and Murali (Third). Sad to see Raman out but he still has a chance in online rounds….All the best Raman!!!

On Day 2 (Puzzles) the competition became tougher with Rishi Puri also playing alongside. I completed the first set in around 40 mins but did a silly mistake (blunder) in the minesweeper which costed me 6 points. I got a total of 94. But luckily I could do the second round without any mistake in around 45 mins secured a total of 194 points. Rishi as usual did extremely well and finished both the sets in less than 30 mins (overall timing of 59 mins) and got a perfect 200. Jaipal also finished both the rounds in less than 30 mins each but did a blunder in Mastermind (first round) and lost 10 points. So his total became 190…………So the final results Rishi (First), myself (Second) and Jaipal (Third). Murali also completed the first set but got lost in the second one. Raman also was not able to complete both the sets…….

Overall it was a nice experience…………a very well organized competition….. Congrats to all who made it a success………

Raman, if you are reading this, you have a good chance to be in the finals by appearing in the online prelims. We'll have 20 more players from online prelims.

Thanks a lot to LM Organisers and IIIT team for conducting regional round at Hyderabad successfully without any glitches. Liked both sudokus and puzzles.

I have completed 1st puzzle round in 55 minutes. Not able to do water puzzle in 2nd puzzle round. Seems I have done a mistake in some other puzzle too.

Good to know that 20 would be selected from online prelims. I am very confident that I can make it to puzzles finals too ;) (39 toppers from regional rounds are no more a competition in online prelims)

Ouch... Made mistake here, it is not 20, it is 10 ( as mentioned in the rules page)
Still, you definitely can make it to top 10.

There is no plan to publish scores for regional rounds.
