Some notes about April Contest 2026

Please note this contest will have a slightly different format than regular LMI tests.
Key differences from regular LMI tests:
1. There is no IB (i.e. no Instructions Booklet). If you have any questions about any puzzle, please ask here in the forum.
2. The PB (Puzzle Booklet) does not have any password.
3. You can download the pdf when the contest starts and start solving. Login at the contest page and click on "Start test" to start submitting.
4. There is no time limit other than the 10 day duration. You can submit until the contest ends.
5. There will be some optimizer puzzles. Other puzzles will be very hard (compared to regular LMI tests)
6. Same scores will have same rank (i.e. early submissions do not count towards rank)

Other important points:
7. There shall be no online solving interface (like penpa) provided for this test.
8. The score page shall be made available later.
9. There shall be 10 pages in the Puzzle Booklet.
10. Participants can submit answers any number of times. The last submission shall be considered for scoring.
11. There shall be no separate notification on submitting answers.

I think there is utility in keeping it restricted in case someone wants to verify their solution following the rules, or comment on a solve path - unrestricting individual posts is easy, just a button.

(puzzle 4) What is meant by "loop that does not touch or intersect itself"? Is it like a Snake, where (copying from GP rules) "if two cells in the snake touch orthogonally, then they must be exactly one cell apart along the path of the snake, and if two cells in the snake touch diagonally, then they must be exactly two cells apart along the path of the snake"?

Also, there must be only one loop, right? The second to last sentence says "each circle belongs to a loop" (not "the loop").

Your understanding for the loop is correct, it is a snake-like loop.

'A' vs 'the' is just translation issues that I missed, only one loop.

3: good questrion, and is the Jigsaw puzzle independently unique or is one supposed to find a solution that works for the Pentoloop?
11: What is meant by this "Words should read from left to right and right to left, or top to bottom and bottom to top. " why are and and or used interchangeably? I interpret it as you can only use both directions horizontally, or only vertically.
10: "Does not touch itself" is not ambiguous. Diagonal ?
Pieces can be repeated?

3. At the very top of the page it says "solve two related puzzles".
11. Words can be read in any of the 4 directions, as in the example.
10. The standard rule for the loop: Loop does not touch or intersect itself. In the example, the V pentomino is used twice. In this sense, it is possible to repeat. But there is no third V pentomino among the 14 given pentominoes. Therefore, you cannot use the V pentomino three times.

You cannot swap FIFIR and RUBIA because the letter R is upside down.

I don't think that happens in the alternative solution.

"Two L or I pentominoes cannot fit entirely in 2 x 5 and 5 x 2 rectangles." This is automatically implied by the immediately preceding statement. So it should be removed to avoid confusion

It is not. In the example, this rule prevents swapping the leftmost L with the bottommost I, because then the first two columns would form a 5x2 rectangle that is filled with two I pentominoes and nothing else

I first composed the text in Russian, and then connected the translator. In Russian, the word azure is written with the letter L. I should have changed the letters L to A, but it's too late. You need to start with azure, as stated in the rules.

Unfortunately, Russians cannot browse websites with the .com domain. Upon prior request, I was allowed to use only the LMI website.
I'll try to explain it without following the link. If you turn the sheet 180 degrees, the letters R become legible (not rotated). Then FIFIR and RUBIA can be entered by looking at the correctly oriented letters R.

If the segments AC and CD lie on the same straight line, then these are segments of the same color. They touch each other at point C, which is prohibited by the rules.

Initially, I suggested specifying pairs of letters in alphabetical order. Prasanna corrected the answer format and suggested specifying X in all cases with paired letters. Please specify X.

Hello, for 11 (Codeword), in order to maximize the number of used letters, is it allowed to complete the grid with some words not in pairs ?

This is a thread of a puzzle contest which has other puzzles with Sudoku. You can try any past contests here - https://logicmastersindia.com/live/search-contests

The next Sudoku contest to try is Sudoku Mahabharat round 4 which you can find more details for here - https://logicmastersindia.com/SM/2026sm.asp

Any current/recent contest will be displayed at the top, like right now you can see Riad's April Contest up there which is what this thread is for.

Hello, you need to use all the words from the selected pairs. You cannot use words without a pair.

The four given '4's' can be colored. These clues only refer to the numbers options, not to the paint options. (Interestingly, it seems there is no good way to indicate clues referring to white painting for this puzzle.)

Please, thank you.

Can the edges of any two orthogons touch each other?
Can corners touch corners?
Can one orthogon be contained entirely within another?
