It was my first online test after two years and I really enjoyed the test. Very nice set of sudokus. My favourites were Arrow ( 9x9 and 6x6 ) , Diagonal ( 9x9 ) , Thermo ( 9x9 ) and the 12 pointer classic.

Thanks Prasanna for a nice test. I faced no hiccups and could solve all the sudokus smoothly. Most of the sudokus had an enjoyable solve.I felt that the round was a tad easier for an SM ?! Maybe it's just my opinion and it could also be that I am used to the style of author as all rounds in ISKL just previously were authored by Prasanna.

My favourites are Classic (12 pointer) which had a lot of pairs and triplets , Diagonal (14 points) loved the split dragon style eliminations.Very clean construction !

Hi, This is my first SM. I have scored a paltry 26 which is basically from solving the low hanging fruits of the 6x6 and then moving to the classic 9x9. This being my first contest, my strategy was to solve simple, score and then move to variants. It worked a bit for me but I basically realized a few things. My question pertains to the most prominent one. How do I improve my speed? How do I get faster on the classic sudokus 9x9 and what are good timings to wrap up the 6x6? (I get practise might be one answer I would get, but apart from that? Should there be a focus on learning more advanced sudoku techniques like wings/kites etc? And/Or just more practise? Is there a forum apart from this to discuss these things? Any groups (telegram/whatsapp) etc?

Welcome to sudoku solving!
I'm afraid the harsh truth to improving your speed is practise and lots of it.
Speed-solving is about recognising the easy deductions quickly for easy-medium puzzles.
The best solvers should be able to finish SM's 6x6 in about a minute(!) each.
Learning advanced techniques can help you solve harder puzzles but using it during speed-solving is another matter.
With practise, fast solvers would quickly see harder techniques (and employ them quickly) which improves their solving time.
You learn these skills by solving hard puzzles (without guessing) to add patterns to your repertoire.

In a competition, there is a threshold of difficulty where guessing would be quicker than logical solving.
Though, top solvers would only use guessing as a last resort, since they would've nailed the basics and make most of their deductions early on.

Hope this helps!

A good set to start the 2020 SM season. I found the Diagonal Sudoku a bit too difficult, while the rest of the set a bit too easy. It was an enjoyable round.

I thought this was a nice set of puzzles, and well graded relative to each other. I always like a set I can finish within the time limit! Would LMI be interested in our mentioning the Mahabharat and perhaps showing a video about one of the puzzles on the Cracking the Cryptic Youtube channel? Mark Goodliffe

What did you think about the puzzle quality of the test? Very nice
Which set of puzzles did you like the most? Palindrome Sudoku
Of the puzzles you solved/attempted, how well did the point values reflect the difficulty? Most puzzles were worth the right amount

Thank you to everyone who participated. I am especially encouraged by 203 Indian participants, 8 of whom were from the offline SM round which we hope will grow in popularity as the year progresses. My only request to all the participants now is to continue through the six rounds to get the full SM experience. To some of the beginners and newcomers, don't get discouraged by a low score, we all started from somewhere similar :)

Congratulations to Jakub, Jan and Seungjae, and Rohan, Kishore and Ashish for securing the top 3 International and Indian spots respectively. Also congratulations to the participants who finished all 18 Sudokus of an SM round within 90 minutes for the first time!

I hope everyone enjoyed the set! Now we can look forward to the Substitution and Neighbours variants the youthful duo of Hemant and Pranav come up with for Round 2.

In the scoreboard, rank "D" means the participant has been disqualified for using unfair means in the contest.

This round of Sudoku Mahabharat finished in 15.01. You cannot participate now in competition as is closed. But you can wait for next round of sudoku competition in 2 weeks (7.02-10.02, if I am correct).

Hi. The Instruction booklet of any LMI test do not need a password to open. The Competition booklet will be password protected and the password will be displayed only when you start a test i.e. click Start Test button available in the competition page.

The FAQ link given in the previous posts will help you to get started with the site, instructions for participation, password retrieval etc. Please go through the FAQ and feel free to post any queries you have. We will help you in your queries.
