Putting them horizontally is definitely preferable, so lets not open a poll.
The only thing you need to take care of is that the grid size shouldn't be very small after you have 2 grids horizontally.
So, you need to have the page with Twin in "Landscape" orientation, while all other pages have to be in "Portrait" orientation. This can be done easily, if you are using Microsoft Word.
(Fred was using Open Office, so we decided not to experiment. We were not sure if all printers support this. We were also bit skeptical because lot of players had reported printing issues in Fred's previous test "Spring Test" ) Edited by debmohanty 2012-04-09 2:15 PM

Updated IB has been uploaded. The typo errors for the Product Killer has been Corrected. The point distribution mismatch has been rectified. Additional Instruction on the two main diagonals in the Little Killer has also been updated.

I don't know what will be the rules of the test puzzle (waiting for Rishi's answer ), but here is a puzzle which satisfies the rule "digits cannot repeat inside a cage".
Here are 2 versions of the grid. Of course the "kid" version with digits 2 and 3 in row 2 can be solved by a 6-month baby. I made the second version just to preserve my reputation of creating hard grids. I have modified the IB to reflect a 6x6 5 is still alive puzzle. The actual rule in the test will be that the digit cannot repeat inside a cage. The example puzzle earlier was from Five Fold test by Serkan where the digits can repeat. That was an oversight from my end.
Twin Killer Digit also has been corrected.

Personnaly, I prefer horizontal presentation of twin grids. That being said, I don't think that it makes a lot of difference for me, and it'll not bother me if the twins are presented vertically, as Richard and I made for the previous tests.
The points are:
*I think for online players grids will be presented horizontally (because of monitor's size ). The question is: Should it be perfectly the same between online and paper players? or knowing that it's not the same, each player can chose the way he solve this particularly grid (if he prefer horizontally, he can solve it online )?
*The second question I've asked to myself was the printing issues. With different paper orientations on the pdf file, knowing the vagaries of the computer science: with a huge amount of different printers and drivers and a lot of different "pdf reader" software, I feared that someone could have a printing issue due to this fact. That's why we chose a vertical presentation of the twins for the last test (Technically, it's not difficult to have different page orientation with OpenOffice ).

Of course this will mostly mean in my case that I'll never be sure of which one to choose and end up leaving it entirely...  |

Personnally I prefer only one page and use scissors to put the grids as I want ( vertically, horizontally, diagonally ..... ) |

Our intention was not to hurt anyone's sentiments and after discussions with fellow solvers across the world, we decided to change the title.
Our focus and passions are all towards puzzles and we intend to keep it that way.

Sometimes a 'theme' can be a very simple digit...
The first one I made was for the 3rd anniversary of the puzzle portal in Germany, and the second was a bit too hard for the recent German sudoku championship.
Maybe they will help in preparation for this killer-test. The way to think yourself into the puzzle might be the same...

Yes, and yes.
I don't think it is a variation either, just an attempt at a paradigm shift that is unfortunately more detrimental to online solvers than paper solvers who can "fix" the puzzle. Just be sure to convert back to 0-8 before submitting the answer. Edited by motris 2012-04-14 12:45 AM

If you do that remember to subtract 1 from every digit for the answer key.
The Killer from the spring sudoku test and the one I made were both zero killers (unclued areas ) and had clear cage sum themes. So maybe it's another similar gimmick.
I at first was thinking the greater than killer would have the symbols be between cages (like on killersudokuonline.com ) and not between cells. |

It took me a little while to realise the name didn't match the name on the answer key page. But I had actually switched answer pages a few times looking for the right place to put in the answer key.

It's to increase tension.
I think it has some old script remembered as it also already shows ratings before I entered them.

Country : United States | I think I noticed a typo on the Untouch submission form: the online form says to submit row 5 and row 6 but the arrows on the puzzle say to submit row 5 and column 6. |

Country : India | Killing Time — LMI April Sudoku Test is over.
Congratulations to janoslaw, Kota, motris for taking the top 3 positions. 4 more players (deu, Nikola, Ziti, misko) completed all 12 sudokus.
Among Indian players, Prasanna played extremely to be ranked overall 10th. Rohan and Rajesh complete the top 3.
Out of 163 players, 133 players solved at least one Killer. Thank you everyone for participating. |

Those were also exactly the ones I had planned to try, so my mission was accomplished! All in all it turned out to be my best relative performance so far, so I am even happier with this result.

Kota, You don't have to be sorry about the mistakes in the IB. It just goes to show how valuable the information in the IB is and how correct it has to be. Its a good sign that you look into the IB deeply.
Jan M blew the test no doubt but your performance was no small feat either. congrats again.

When I solved it afterwards I didn't use the untouch at all. I am not sure how the opening was supposed to work, but the way I did it, I had no use for the the untouch rule and after you get it going, thinking about the untouch rule would just be distracting when you can just work the cages. |
